Mrs Dalloway

I recently just watched the film "The Hours" which was strongly influenced by Mrs. Dalloway.  The main character in that movie is a woman named Clarissa Vaughn and her day in the film strongly resembles that of Mrs. Dalloway and their characteristics are so similar.  Vaughn is a frequent partygoer and thrower who visits past loves in her day and recounts her time with the, similar to what Mrs. Dalloway does.  She also has a daughter who is very different from herself.  Both Clarissa's are shunning "normative" woman characteristics and are redefining themselves.

  1. The ailment in “Mrs. Dalloway” is shellshock, whereas the ailment in “The Hours” is aids. The pain Virginia Woolf feels in the “Hours” is not just due to headaches, because it is described as a veil, as the pain colonizes her. Virginia Wolf makes you look back into your own memories, or your consciousness. A movie/novel like this can lead you introspectively.
