When everything finally materializes between her sister and Remy, something changes in Anne Eliza. Although it is not often referenced, her religious feeling, there was always some lingering hope that when things were taken from her, it was for the good of another. on some level she believed that there was a balance or purpose in the universe. What happened to her sister however was on a different level of destruction. Not only was her sister brutalized and one could even argue murdered by Remy, but also Evelina had been able to adapt to a world where that was what was to be expected on the daily. Watching her innocent sister be transformed into a person she couldn’t even recognize through nothing but evil, was more than she could have ever accepted in a God. I like that she brought up God because it shows how alone she really was in the end. Remy did more than destroy Evelina, he destroyed their universe and their faith in existence.
