"But greatest happening of all-- a subtle happening which both were too simple to understand--Louisa's feet had turned into a path, smooth maybe under a calm, serene sky, but so straight and unswerving that it could only meet a check at her grave, and so narrow that there was no room for anyone at her side." pg.353 I loved the way the author put this. this describes how Louisa changed when she was left alone for 14 years. i like that it happened so subtly without her knowing or understanding. "smooth, maybe under a calm, serene sky" i like that these words don't obviously describe her transition, but they give you a certain feeling about it. the reference to her grave i felt like showed that it was the kind of change that was deep within her and unchangeable. the whole passage is so interesting.
