I found Lady Tal character to be a little bitter simply because she never showed any emotion or anything. Lady Tal was shown a mean character. There was also a lot of input on Lady Tal appearance and describing her to have some manly features which I think is a way of showing her as a anger women.
I don't think she was mean. She was not exactly, seteotypically, wearing her heart on her sleeve, but she was really in control of her emotions. That doesn't make her mean....She has a lot of compassion for her brother, for example.
