This is a dedicated discussion space for Professor Renzi's ENG 353 course during Spring 2012. We will blog as a way to practice analytical reading and writing, as well as to continue our discussions this semester beyond the confines of our class meetings.

Vera
The moment I found most interesting in Vera Drake was the moment where Sally Hawkins character went to get approved for an abortion. it was interesting that the only people she spoke to were men. the way they treated her wish, like she was crazy to want an abortion contrasted so differently from Vera. Vera seemed to understand in only a way another woman could, that it was life or death for these women.

i found it very interesting as well that the people sally hawkins talked to were all male. it was all males judging whether or not she could get an abortion. this seems absolutely absurd because men do not have children, so why should they decide what women have to do with their own bodies and babies. even relating this to the Arizona legislation on birth control and conception, men are the people who are running this stuff and creating these laws, and all i keep thinking is why?!! why do men judge and pass laws that have nothing to do with them?!
