Something really struck me when Lutie discusses taking in State children to help pay for things. She does express that it wasn't exactly the right thing to do, and that they were cheating the system. However, to me something just seems so wrong about this process. These kids really needed places to live and families and Lutie mentions taking care of everyone and making sure they are well fed on the money they have, but she never mentions any indication of actually mothering these children. She seems so concerned with Bub's future currently and giving him a better life that I was very shocked that she didn't feel the same way about these other children.
