This is a dedicated discussion space for Professor Renzi's ENG 353 course during Spring 2012. We will blog as a way to practice analytical reading and writing, as well as to continue our discussions this semester beyond the confines of our class meetings.

The Street
Based upon the title, I expected that the setting of this book was going to take place on a street. However, I had anticipated a very graphic description of it. I feel like it's common place for novels to really describe the setting, completely independent of whether or not it's the title of the story. Instead, Perry really describes the wind against the panes of the window, as well as on the streets. I really enjoy Perry's writing style. I also really like that the main character, Lutie, is a black woman. We haven't read anything from the point of view of a black woman and I think it's going to be really refreshing.
