The Street

"The Street" is an intriguing novel that starts off in a slow manner, but digs deep into the bigger issues of race and socio-economic class. The quote that I read that hit home was "[Little Henry Chandler] didn't need her and Bud did. But Bub had to do without her" (Petry, 29). I cannot imagine being a mother and having to forsake the precious time of my child's youth in efforts to provide for him. This notion alludes to the struggle that many black woman suffered through in response to the high demands of their family's needs.

  1. I completely agree. I had the same feeling of sadness when Lutie left her young son behind. I cannot imagine being in her situation to just get by.
