The Street
One thing that really struck out to me was Super relationship with Min after Lutie moved in. Super was obsessed with Lutie and was constantly thinking about her "long brown legs". His relationship turned very cold with Min and he was not talking to her as much or eating dinner with her. One night after returning home from Luties apartment he came into his apartment with no Min to be found. He got his hopes up at first because he thought that Min had moved out of his apartment. Super began to feel doubtful of his possible relationship with Lutie because, "If a creature like Min didn't want him there was no reason for him to believe that Lutie would have him" (Petry 112). This quote was interesting to me because Super refers to Min as a creature. A creature in his use of the word is used as a way to represent a person out of pity. It is interesting to me the Super would pity Min enough to call her a creature but has allowed her to be part of his life for the past couple years. In this sense we start to see that Super just wants someone to love who is worth his time.

I really liked the last thing you said that the Super really seems like he just wants someone to love who is worth his time. I thought that was really interesting because at first he really doesn't seem to have any attraction to Min but then we almost see some sort of compassion for her when she leaves. By the way the Super talks about women I almost feel as though he doesn't care much about who the person is as long as he has someone there. He really doesn't know anything about her other than the fact that he is physically attracted to her. He really sounds sleazy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you both how the Super doesn't seem to care who the person he is with but as long as he has a person. I think he believes his ideal person would be Lutie but he obviously thinks that she would not go for him anyways. The Super overall just really creeps me out and makes me uncomfortable and I feel as though something bad is going to happen because of his obsession with Lutie.
