The Awakening Pt. 2-Naja Tatum

In the final reading of The Awakening, I was captivated by Edna's actions in having relations with Alcee and Robert. The passage that stood out to me the most is when Edna and Robert finally confess and reveal their love for one another. (pgs 102-103) Edna states that, "I love you..only you; no one but you. It was you who awoke me last summer out of a life long, stupid dream..." This part stood out to me because Edna finally realizes that she is very unhappy with Leonce and this view she has had of not truly believing in love is finally discovered but she is not able to fully give into her feelings and love for Robert because of the realities she can't escape, which our Leonce and her children.  The fact that she is awoken suggest that Edna realizes she is her own woman and person she is not a possession of her husband. I am also sympathetic for her because she seems to have a strong dislike for her marriage and the responsibilities that come with it. She seems to only be happy with Robert or alone which are two things that can't happen. The most remarkable part about the ending of this novel is that even though she is married and ha children, she no longer feels trapped in this life or controlled by it.
