Three Dreams in the Desert

There were many metaphors and underlying themes throughout this short story. It was interesting in the first dream how the woman had been covered by the sand and weighed down for many years. I disliked how the woman was tethered to the man and that she was only able to rise to her knees after he severed one of their ties. I thought it peculiar that the man could not help her rise from her knees and that he was somewhat hindering her. The narrator states that the woman must help herself.

The next dream reminded me of something biblical, like Moses parting the sea, especially the way the narrator said, “Where you stand now the ground will be beaten flat by ten thousand times ten thousand feet.” And when the women said .”Over that bridge which shall be built with our bodies, who will pass?” And the narrator replied “The human race.” And then the women grasped the staff and carried on. This story was appealing because the women was the first to adventure off to freedom.

The third story about heaven on earth’s message struck me as gender equality would be heaven, and people would be equal and unafraid.
